Fassier did speak of 'brave' Karabakh warriors - Azerbaijani analyst

Mon 15 March 2010 | 11:46 GMT

Bernard Fassier really spoke of the 'brave' Karabakh warriors who will allegedly not let Azerbaijan win the war.

Co-Founder of the Republicanist Alternative civic union Ilgar Mammadov who took part in the Rose Roth seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has commented on the statement of OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, Bernard Fassier, in Yerevan.

"Bernard Fassier really spoke of the 'brave' Karabakh warriors who will allegedly not let Azerbaijan win the war. He spoke in French and I, like all the participants, heard the translation of his speech into English", 1news.az quotes Ilgar Mammadov as saying from Yerevan.

"It is frustrating that the Minsk Group co-chair, instead of fulfilling his duties, took doubtful functions of the Armenian defense minister for raising the moral spirit of the Armenian servicemen.

I think if the translation has not been distorted, official Baku must react duly to this rude step", Mammadov said.

Co-chair of the Minsk Group from France Bernard Fassier told reporters in Yerevan on 12 March 2010 that "Azerbaijan's victory in case of war is impossible because I am personally familiar with the courage of the Armenian and Karabakh warriors". Fassier also noted that war will not bring any good to Azerbaijan because it will be harmful for its financial interests and oil trade.

Commenting on the statement by Fassier, spokesman for Azerbaijan's FM Elkhan Polukhov said the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry will investigate this case and declare Azerbaijan's position on this issue. "If such statements are made by one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, they should be explained", he said.
