Azerbaijan looks for 576 missing persons post-Karabakh

An Azerbaijani state commission has asked government agencies and international organizations to search for 576 missing persons.

The State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons cited the figure in the Azerbaijani national security report submitted to parliament, APA news agency reported on Saturday.

The state commission earlier informed the International Committee of the Red Cross about 117 missing Azerbaijanis, who had not been registered by the ICRC.

The fate of 84 missing people was cleared up and their names removed from the missing persons list last year. Of the 84, 29 are alive, 35 died during military operations and were identified by their relatives and buried, the names of 13 people had been repeated and seven people had gone missing beyond the conflict area.

By the end of 2009, 4,133 people had been declared missing in Azerbaijan and 1,396 people had been identified by the state commission as released from captivity.

The state commission asked government agencies and international organizations to search for 576 people.
