Azerbaijan registers more than 4100 Mass Media

There are 40 information agencies and more than 20 transmission companies in Azerbaijan, said Vugar Aliyev.

One-day international conference "Media in democratic society: international and national practice" is being held by the joint organization of the Joint Working Group on Implementation of International Standards of Human Rights in Azerbaijan and Strategic Research Centre under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Local and international experts on media issues, chiefs of local media organizations, MPs were attended the conference.

Member of the Joint Group member, Constitutional Court Judge Jean Paul Murman said that developed media was one of the important spheres in democratic states. He noted that the development of the media in Azerbaijan is significant for stableness and democratization of the country.

Presidential Administration Socio-political Department Head on Work Sector with Press and Information Organs Vugar Aliyev said that after Azerbaijan had become independent, the development in other spheres influenced also on media. To him, there are more than 4100 Mass Media have been registered in Azerbaijan, 100 of them function regularly. Besides, there are 40 information agencies and more than 20 transmission companies in Azerbaijan: "The shortcoming in Azerbaijan’s media is that it doesn’t go with the development temp of society".

Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov said that the main problem of the press is the weakness of its economic supporting, dissatisfactory of journalists’ social position, absence of trade advertising: “Weak media from standpoint of economics always depends on something. That is why we must look through trade advertising again”.

Amashov noted that journalists had problem in having information from first source and necessary measures are being taken for its elimination.

The conference will continue till the end of the day and resolution will be passed ad extremum.
