State Department said according to official statistics there were 23.000 and unofficially 300.000 drug users in Azerbaijan.
“US State Department said according to official statistics there were 23.000 and unofficially 300.000 drug users in Azerbaijan and 35-40% of them were students.
There are 120 000 students in Azerbaijan and 40% means that every fourth student is drug user”, said Deputy Minister of Education Elmar Gasimov in his address to the State Commission on Combating Drug Use and Trafficking.
Gasimov said US embassy official was invited to the Ministry of Education concerning the report. “They told us that it was based on the reports of local NGOs. Inflation of the facts related to the country damages on image of Azerbaijan”.
