Communications and Information Technology Minister Ali Abbasov has met the head of the EBRD Baku office, Francis Delay, and legal adviser Paul Moffat.

The visitors said that the bank closely followed and welcomed the ongoing changes and plans for the information and communications sector in Azerbaijan, the ministry's press service reported.

They said the bank intended to assist in the implementation of reforms in the sphere of regulation. To this end, the bank is planning to organize eight-week training courses for specialists from the ministry and other relevant agencies.

The EBRD also offered the ministry assistance in liberalization and privatization and expressed interest in projects such as the launch of a communications satellite and the creation of a regional innovation zone.

The EBRD representatives said that once they had studied the "State program for the development of communication and information technology in Azerbaijan for 2009-2012" they would submit proposals to the ministry.

Abbasov expressed his thanks for their interest in Azerbaijan's ICT sector.
