The station operating over last 5 years still has been used by 35% of its declared capacity.

National energy operator of Azerbaijan, Azerenerji OJSC, still fails to ensure effective use of combined-cycle plant of Severnaya (Simal) thermal power station which is the key power generating capacity of Baku.

Energy company’s sources say that the station operating over last 5 years still has been used by 35% of its declared capacity.

One of the causes brought on the occasion is constant failures in check-out facilities that, in its turn, is linked with Azerenerji’s inability to adjust their maintenance.

The plant was constructed due to a Japanese government’s loan and equipped with equipment made in this country, except a cooling plant. Earlier it was reported that because of non-conformity between the generating and cooling plants the station cannot obtain fixed schedule of operation.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan and Japan are negotiating about construction of the second combined-cycle plant at the station. However, the 2nd round of tender selection of contractors gave no results.
