Consumer spending up in Azerbaijan

Retail trade in Azerbaijan grew 8.1% in January and February, compared to the corresponding period last year.

The volume of retail trade in the first two months of the year was AZN 2bn ($2.49bn), the State Statistics Committee reported yesterday.

The Azerbaijani population used services worth AZN 678m ($843.91m), a 10.7% growth over the same period of 2009.

During the reporting period the population purchased foodstuffs worth AZN 1.3m ($1.62m) , and non-food goods worth AZN 690.4m ($859.35m). The volume of purchased goods grew 8.4% and 7.9% respectively compared to January-February 2009.

(An exchange rate of one manat to $0.8034 has been used.)
