Azerbaijan’s Cabinet has passed decision No 45 on measures to ensure compliance of vehicles imported and manufactured in the country to European standards of air pollution.
Under the order, from July 1, 2010 vehicles in the country must comply with environmental standards not below Euro-2. Also, the plan of measures to ensure the compliance of vehicles imported and produced in the country to European standards of air pollution has been adopted.
In this regard, the Ministry of Industry and Energy, the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents and the State Oil Company (SOCAR) are entrusted to control the compliance of fuel produced and sold in this country to these standards, including the suspension of licenses for their trade and production.
The plan requires approval of technical regulations on harmful emissions in March 2010, the development and approval of national standards of emission level in April in accordance with the standards of the European Economic Commission (EEC) of the UN. Proposals on transition to the euro-3 and higher European environmental standards must be prepared and presented to the Cabinet of Ministers in the first half of 2010. In the first half of 2010 the Cabinet of Ministers shall be submitted the draft regulations on import and customs legalization of rarity vehicles.
