Special album marks mugam singer's 70th birthday

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has released a special album to mark the 70th birthday of mugam singer Janali Akbarov.

Janali Akbarov (also written Akperov) was born 70 years ago in Lenkoran into a musical family. His father and grandfather were both mugam singers. He studied in the great mugam singer Khan Shushinski's studio and has remained under his teacher's influence throughout his career. 

Professor Akbarov holds the title People's Artist of Azerbaijan.

The special album includes a book and four compact discs, all produced to a high standard.The CDs feature a range of mugams and popular songs, including Zabul-segah and Mahur-hindi mugam modes (or suites), Dugah and Shahnaz mugams, Simayi-shams and Mansuriyya rhythmic mugams and Karabakh (Qarabag) shikastasi.

The release of the album is part of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's work to promote Azerbaijani mugam.

The Foundation has also released the albums Singers from Karabakh and World of Mugam, the multimedia collection Azerbaijani Mugam, and albums of performances by masters of the art, including Agakhan Abdullayev, Alibaba Mammadov, Arif Babayev and Habil Aliyev, a player of the traditional stringed instrument, the kamancha.
