Freedom of information in Azerbaijan discussed at round table

On Wednesday, the British embassy in Baku has organized a round table on freedom of information and right to know in Azerbaijan.

Director of the Media Rights Institute Rashid Hajili informed the participants about the results of researches conducted by the organization of ARTICLE 19 and New Generation Journalists Union about the opportunities to realize freedom of information and right to know in Azerbaijan. He said violation of law on right to know was identified during the investigation.

Report on freedom of information and right to know in Azerbaijan was submitted at the event.

Member of the parliament Fazil Mustafa said it became difficult to get information in Azerbaijan and it needed to establish the office of media ombudsman in the country.

MP Elmira Akhundova said adoption of defamation law was expedient.
