Ramin Mehmanparast
German security forces arrested Abdul Rahman Haji Ahmadi, leader of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group, the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), at his apartment near Cologne on Friday and released him on Monday.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mehmanparast at his weekly press conference yesterday accused European governments of backing terrorism.
'Unfortunately, the European states just chant slogans that support human rights,' Mehmanparast said. There is plenty of evidence that Europe 'is a safe haven for terrorists', he continued.
On Iran's nuclear program, Mehmanparast said that, considering Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the agency's monitoring, there was no legal basis to discuss Iran's nuclear program outside the IAEA.
Referring to Western pressure, Mehmanparast said, 'Iran will not give up its right because of pressure. Iran's nuclear program is a testing ground for arrogant countries.'
He said that, 'Supplying nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor is Iran's priority and we have asked the IAEA to supply nuclear fuel; if the agency suggests a country, we are ready to buy fuel; if a country offers a nuclear swap, we are ready to perform the exchange.'
Asked about remarks on Tuesday by US General David Petraeus who branded Iran a government of thugs, the spokesman said the remarks reflected US fury at their back-to-back failure in a soft war in Iran, at the arrest of Jundallah ringleader Abdolmalek Rigi and the Iraqi elections.
