Azerbaijanis compete in European Chess Championship

Azerbaijan's men and women chess players are competing in the championship in Rijeka, Croatia.

Rauf Mammadov is doing best out of the Azerbaijani competitors, standing in 20th place with 2.5 points after three rounds. Rauf beat Croatian Zlatko Martic and Russian Pavel Anisimov, while in the third round he drew with Armenian Avetik Grigoryan.

Gulnar Mammadova and Turkan Mammadyarova are doing best out of Azerbaijan's women. They both have two points and are in 49th and 53rd places respectively.

The European championship will end on 17 March, when the final, 11th, round will be played.
