One person was killed and six injured in what's thought to have been a mortar explosion in western Georgia's Imereti Province on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the village of Kumuri in Vani District, when the Julakidze family were having dinner with their relatives.

Dato Julakidze, 38, was killed in the explosion, and several people were badly injured and taken to hospital.

Few details of the incident are known so far. It's thought that the mortar blew up when members of the family were trying to take it apart.
