Meeting was initiated by Azerbaijani and Armenia ambassadors to Russia and special envoy of the Russian President on international culture cooperation.
The meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijani and Armenian mass medias initiated by Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bul Bul oghlu, Armenian ambassador to Russia Armen Dmbatyan and special envoy of the Russian President on international culture cooperation Mikhail Schvidko, was held in Moscow yesterday on October 28 of 2009.
Azerbaijani side was represented by chief editor of News.Az Elnur Baimov, chief editor of 1news.az Rahman Hajiyev, director of Day.Az news agency Ilgar Guseynov, chief editor of the Novoye Vremya newspaper Shakir Gabiloghlu.
Armenian side was represented by Kh.Zoryan (ArmenPress), G.Manukyan (Yerkir Media TV), A.Abramyan (Aravot), A.Yerkanyan (Shant TV).
Representatives of the Russian mass media including M.Gusman (ITAR TASS), A.Mursaliyev (Kommersant), M.Simonyan (Russia Today), V.Loshak (Ogonyok), V.Sungorkin (Komsomolskaya Pravda), V.Borodin (Trud) also attended.
The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere. The sides exchanged views regarding the role of mass media in formation of a constructive public opinion in Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The parties stressed the need for a phased formation of a new image of an opposite side, different from that of an eternal enemy.
Armenian ambassador Smbatyan especially noted that the conflict will be settled sooner or later and people of both countries will have to learn to live together.
Azerbaijani ambassador Bul Bul oghlu stressed the need to continue such meetings and underlined their role in building trust between the parties.
Several proposals, including the soonest organization of the next meeting of the media leaders to develop specific proposals on possible future cooperation, have been put forward at initiative of both ambassador and Schvidkoy.
