Azerbaijan raises transit of cargo to Afghanistan

Cargo is sent to Afghanistan 15-20 times a month.

The volume of the cargo transported from Europe to Afghanistan through Azerbaijan via TRACECA has increased, chief of Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company Aydin Bashirov said.

According to Bashirov, at present two ships owned by the Caspian Shipping Company are carrying these cargos between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Cargo is sent to Afghanistan 15-20 times a month.

Chairman of the Caspian Shipping Company said each ship carries over 100 containers. He said the volume of the aid cargo to Afghanistan had increased.

US, NATO and TRACECA countries reached an agreement in Baku in March last year on the transportation of the humanitarian aid from Europe to Afghanistan via TRACECA.
