Lord Hunt

The head of Azerbaijan's State Oil Company, Rovnag Abdullayev, has met Britain's minister of state for energy and climate change, Lord Hunt.

Lord Hunt is expected to discuss the Nabucco and Trans-Caspian gas pipeline projects during his visit to Azerbaijan.

He arrived in Baku from Turkmenistan, where he discussed energy issues with the Turkmen leadership.

The British embassy in Azerbaijan said that Lord Hunt's visit would be brief, but did not specify the aims of the visit.

Before the trip to Baku Lord Hunt said: "Azerbaijan is an actively developing country in the strategic region of greater Europe. Such global projects of recent years, as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli and Shah Deniz fields have made Azerbaijan an important supplier of energy resources in the world. The Caspian countries have huge reserves of hydrocarbons, which can be of great benefit to Europeans. The dream of the direct transportation of Caspian gas to Europe is now becoming reality."
