Campaign on elections for organs of local self-government (municipalities) is underway.

At yesterday’s news conference in Baku Mazahir Panakhov, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, stated that already 16 parties stood as candidates for participation in the forthcoming elections.

“Totally 25 parties applied to the CEC with this purpose. Our task is to create all conditions for participation of candidates in elections. The process is ongoing in legal order,” Panakhov claimed.

The CEC has already registered authorized representatives of six parties intending to take part in municipal elections. Among them are candidates of the Parties of Democratic Reforms, Social Welfare, People’s Front of United Azerbaijan, National Democratic Party, Ana Veten (Motherland) and Party of Great Edifying.

“Over 20,000 citizens applied to the CEC for registration of their candidatures for participation in elections,” Panakhov said.

Elections will be conducted on 23 December.
